Welcome to the Division of Student Affairs at Tulane University!
I begin today, and everyday lately, thinking about the challenges that Hurricane Katrina brought us and how many opportunities it left in its wake.
In the past few months, the challenges have been many but the opportunity to work with departments from across our campus and our city in preparing for your homecoming has been exhilarating. We have all had one goal - getting you back to normal as soon as possible. But, as the days and weeks after the storm unfolded, the Student Affairs staff realized that 'normal' wasn't what we needed to reach for - we had an opportunity to stretch far beyond normal. As Pauline R. Kezer said:
"Continuity gives us roots; change gives us branches, letting us stretch and grow and reach new heights."
When the spring semester begins, Student Affairs will host many new activities and programs that will allow our students to grow on the campus and in the newly emerging New Orleans community. We have fielded many requests from our student community to help the city of New Orleans make its way back. We now have the incredible privilege of helping to bring one of the world's greatest cities back to life and to reshape what was already a premier academic institution.
Tulane is ready for both of these challenges and Student Affairs is excited and ready to work with all of you to make a difference in our city, at our university and for each of you to have a terrific educational experience at Tulane.
Sincerely,

Cynthia Cherrey
Vice President for Student Affairs
