Getting Here
First thing to know: Because of the crazy, disorienting bend of the Mississippi River as it wraps around New Orleans, few locals use the common directional terms of east, west, north and south.
From west of the city (airport):
Follow Interstate 10 East. Exit at Carrollton Avenue; the off-ramp will aim you in the right direction. Be aware that the exit lane parallels the Interstate for a while before you actually arrive at Carrollton Avenue. Follow Carrollton Avenue and turn left on South Claiborne Avenue, which is the fifth traffic signal. (Like many intersections in New Orleans, this one has a "no left turn" rule. To turn left, go straight for one block, make a U-turn, come back and turn right onto Claiborne). Turn right at the next signal, which is Broadway. Follow Broadway approximately half a mile to Freret Street and turn left. Turn left again at the first signal. This is McAlister Drive.
From east of the city (Slidell):
Follow Interstate 10 West. Exit at South Claiborne Avenue. This can be a bit tricky: after you pass the St. Bernard exit as you approach the city, move to the left as the exit to South Claiborne is from this lane. Remain on South Claiborne for a couple of miles. After passing Jefferson Avenue, begin moving to the left lane in preparation for a left turn onto Broadway. Go about a half mile to Freret Street and turn left. Turn left again at the first signal, which is McAlister Drive.
Once on campus:
If you live on campus, report directly to your residence hall for check-in. Off-campus students go directly to the Pedersen Lobby in the Lavin Bernick Center to check-in. Please remember that the residence halls will not be open until 9am - Saturday, August 23, 2008 . There will be no place to store luggage prior to that date. Make hotel and transportation plans accordingly.
Important Note: Label all boxes, cartons and suitcases you plan to bring with your name and room number.
