Standard Immunizations

Louisiana law requires all entering college students to have up-to-date immunizations or immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, and tetanus. Measles epidemics have been a problem on college campuses across the country over the last decade, and some campuses have had to close until the epidemics were over. We would like to prevent such an occurrence here at Tulane.

You will not be able to register for any classes until proof of immunization has been received.

The Proof of Immunization Compliance Form should be completed and returned to the Student Health Center prior to registration.

The Proof of Immunization Compliance Form requires a physician, or other health-care provider, to record the data on specific immunizations. We would encourage you to get any "missing" immunizations at home, however, you may complete your immunization requirement after you arrive on campus. Please give the immunization letter along with the Proof of Immunization Compliance Form to your physician, as it explains these requirements.

It is recommended that students coming from areas of high tuberculosis transmission (such as Central and South America, Asia and Pacific Islands, Sub-Saharan Africa, People's Republic of China, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, India, Haiti, and Mexico) have a tuberculosis (Manitou) skin test within six months prior to registration at Tulane.

Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend routine immunization with meningococcal vaccine, the American College Health Association recommends the students should consider vaccination to reduce their risk for potentially fatal meningococcal disease. This vaccine is available at the Student Health Center if students wish to receive it here. Tulane University now requires incoming students living in campus housing to be immunized.
